Professor Ian Spark

Professor Ian Spark is the Professor of Vascular Surgery at Flinders Medical Center and Repatriation General Hospital and the Clinical Director for Vascular Surgery at FMC and Repatriation General Hospital. He trained in vascular surgery at Leeds and Adelaide and was appointed Professor of Vascular Surgery in 2008.
Professor Spark’s clinical interests encompass the whole range of vascular surgery but with particular interest in the treatment of complex aortic and carotid diseases, vascular access, as well as minimally invasive treatments for varicose veins.
Professor Spark undertook his MD as a Yorkshire Vascular training fellow with a Sir Jules Thorn award and performed his post-graduate studies at the University of Leeds. He has research interests in both clinical and basic science research. The focus of the basic science group is to develop translational research into the treatment reperfusion injury in vascular patients and identifying the patient at risk of SIRS and sepsis post surgery. In addition there are clinical projects into improving the endovascular treatment of vascular disease.
